Statement

‘Painting is not what I do; it is who I am.’

Artwork is, by its very nature, a by-product of the way we think and feel.

I am a ‘creative type’: I feel truly balanced only when immersed in the creative act. I believe that artistic creativity is an innate character trait rather than an acquired skill. In this sense, I was born an artist.
The Art...is my soul. And with this soul I inspire and become inspired. The Art...is what we all aspire to create and this art speaks a multitude of languages.

My paintings represent an outward expression of the blend of my inner thoughts and emotions with the physical world in which we all live. Vibrant colours and a strong design sense co-exist with humour and compassion to create varied pieces with a universal and timeless appeal.

The Art...is all I am and proudly all I shall remain.

Biography

I'm a professional artist and art educator. The creation and refinement of my unique style has been something I've spent decades perfecting my craft and unique style with its whimsical humour, textural sensitivity and vibrant sense of colour. Although I’m a current resident of Sydney, Australia, I was born and raised in Omsk, Russia. As a result of this mixed culture, my aim has been to blend my eclectic background in European art, experiences, and classics with the fresh Australian colours of both life and nature I've come to find.

I'm most passionate about painting and drawing and have been involved with the two since childhood. I've always loved the experience of losing myself in thought and diving into the world of art and imagination. This creative introspection allows me to produce art that is not only beautiful, but one-of-a-kind. I've been told again and again that this uncanny ability to illustrate the exceptional beauty of everyday life is what makes my artwork lovable.

Throughout my career, I've accumulated a vast repertoire of artistic techniques that have allowed me to better illustrate my intentions as an artist. My aim is to create unforgettable works and impart a deep emotional connection between objects and human beings whenever I begin a new piece. As a result, most of my work conveys the synthesis between Eastern and Western art, the figurative and the abstract, and the real and imaginary.

I'm highly educated and experienced artist as well as an accomplished lecturer specializing in painting, graphics, and art history/theory. I graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Painting at Omsk State University, with First Class Honours. About a year later, I began my 14 year career as a Fine Arts lecturer at the same university. During that time, from 1992 -1994, I took an Advanced Master Course in Fine Arts at the Repin State Academic Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in St. Petersburg, Russia as well as a Professional Fine Arts Master Class at V.I. Surikov State Academic Art Institute in Moscow, Russia.

I believe that my constant exposure to new ideas and types of art is what has allowed me to develop into the artist I am today.

I am a passionate artist and my ultimate aim is to focus on the quality of my work rather that the quantity of it and impart a small piece of myself as an artist into each and every one of my creations.

SIREN Baroque kicks off its third season with Fyer, Fyer!, the first of four concerts exploring the ancient elements, in a special collaboration with the innovative baroque dancers Laura Careless and Marisol Cabrera. The program features blazingly passionate works by Morley, Monteverdi, Rebel, Scarlatti, and Handel, all of which use fire as a metaphor for nature’s wrath, spiritual zeal, lustful ardor, or the terrors of hell. With SIREN Baroque’s “impassioned performances” (Early Music America) accompanied by strikingly seductive choreography, it promises to be an evening to ignite the senses.
